GOLD MEMBERS

Dr. Dre

You could call him one of the originals, he has started his career with the “World Wreckin’ Crew” from which he gratuated to NWA in which he worked with artist such as Eazy-E, Mc-Ren, Ice Cube, and DJ. Yella, who are all big names in the rap game. Dr Dre was released his first solo “The Chronic” which is a great album with many hits that are played to this day.

Being a coowner of Death Row Records he has he has been responsible for bringing many artists into the rap game, gold start artists such as, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game and his most recent Mr Lamar, yes Kendrick!! Giving life to big names such as the ones preciously named, royalties and the success has given him an empire of 250 milion dollars and a spot in the Forbes magazine. Talk about success, hard work does pay off as we can see in Dr.Dres’ case. Focusing on your artists and their success is very important to Dre but when he is not working on his beats, he is busy designing his headphones “Beats By Dre” which feature 6 different models which range in price, size, and quality!

Ja Rule

In the early 2000’s Ja Rule was the most influential and listened rap artist out there! he worked on collaborations featuring powerhouses such as; P.Diddy, Jay-z, Jennifer Lopez, and Ashanti. With all that fame and promotion what could have gone wrong. Making the money, being a role model, working with everyone in the industry how can you afford to just fall off, where is the drive for success?

For Ja, besides having his life under investigation by the feds there was another contributing factor to his downfall. Curtis Jackson a rapper known as 50 cent played a really big part to Ja Rules downfall. He was the real life enemy of Ja Rule, and in 2003 when 50 cent was on the rise in the Rap game he finished off the Murder Inc career. Pushing ja rule, making disrespectful and demeaning comments on interviews, and in newly released music realy took JaRules drive to the point where he gave up. Some still say that Ja Rule downfall was a product of successfully but unsuccessfully making the crossover. “What good is a man to gain the whole world, but has lost his soul”.

HOT SEAT

The artist in the hot seat for this post is Eminem.  His new album “The Marshall Mathers LP2” is Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with the second largest sales week of the year.  In 5 day from with release it has sold 792,000 copies, which is far more than expected.

Since 1999,  Eminem has released 7 Number 1 albums all which have been consecutive. The only one album to actually miss the Number 1 spot, was “The Slim Shady LP”. It only Peaked at Number 2.

What makes Eminem as successful as he truly is?

I often find myself wondering what makes Eminem as successful as he is, he definitely stands out. His music has always had a victim, swearing and bringing people down is what sets him apart from the other industry leaders. Since the rise of the Slim Shady empire, he has had victims such as Britney Spears ” My second victim was even bigger than the first/ pop star, icon, the whole works/ she played the little school girl when she first/burst up on the scene, it seemed that the world was hers”. He also made fun of Christina Aguilera saying “Shit, Christina Aguilera better switch me chairs/ so i can sit next to Carson Daly and Fred Durst/ And hear ’em argue over who she gave head to first/ Little bi@#* put me on blast on MTV/.”

Is this what our society considers good entertainment, or is Eminems past paying of by giving him a healthy future. As a fan of Eminem i have always admired the way he can use humor to make his rhymes flow but at the same time being serious and bringing up issues that he has had while growing up.

is it moral to be listening to music that is making fun or someone and bringing another human being down while at the same time making someone famous and putting money into their pockets? you are the judge of that…
